Finally Chinese New Year effect is about to go off.
This year, instead of eating more of those little tidbits around, I ate more of the main meal dishes. I wonder how much that helped. Bak Gua is really evil stuff. Looking thin and red, you won't really know how much you have eaten popping bits by bits.

Chinese New Year is quite short. The 2 days flew past so fast, it feels like a regular Sunday. The part I enjoyed most was in dad's class 5 and going around visiting. Everyone start talking rubbish inside and laughing at each other.

And do not wear striking red especially in pairs.
In the case where like my relatives who "shot" each other with jokes, either you are a pair of red candles or a red lantern.

My mummies lol

Second day of CNY at Auntie Julie's house (Church fren)

I hate tao sa.
I was tricked into eating 1 again. And its the same old Taiwanese Mochi...

Together in Electric Dreams - Phil Oakley

A super oldie over here. I wonder how many still remembers this song.

I don't think army is a waste of time.
It is just a nasty experience to show the young boys of singapore just how working life is going to be.

Chinese new year will be quite looked forward to.

Bad Breath

Usually, bad breath is caused by bacteria that grow in the mouth. The most effective treatment for bad breath caused by the accumulation of bacteria is proper oral hygiene. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice per day and flossing once daily. Brushing your tongue is important in taming halitosis as well.

A dry mouth is more prone to bad breath than a moist mouth. As such, drinking plenty of water can be important in treating unpleasant mouth odors. Chewing sugarless gum is helpful as well, as it stimulates saliva production, keeping the mouth moist. Sugary gums should not be used for this purpose; the sugar can lead to tooth decay, adding to bad breath issues.

If your oral hygiene is up to par, you may do well to work on preventing bad breath. There are many foods that contribute to unpleasant mouth odors. For example, onions, garlic, and deli meats are well known for causing bad breath. Avoid them whenever you want fresh smelling breath. Some types of cheese also cause halitosis.

Avoid smoking if you’re a trying to avoid bad breath. If you must smoke, remember that gum and mints only cover the problem. To treat it, you’ll need to brush, floss, and stay hydrated. Even so, you may be stuck with bad breath for as long as you continue smoking.

Wayang ah wayang ah wayang wayang hoi!

Wayang is used to describe ppl who loves to make lots of redundant action whenever someone else is looking. Yet when work has to be done, they disappear.

Anyway today I've talked to this warrant officer attending the same course as I am. Talking to him is an enjoyment.
How so? Just by talking to him, you can definitely see his point of view in such weird places and asks very deep questions.

So why talk about him? Because I've learnt something very important from him that he told me about.

In a conversation with anyone that do not know you, for example an interview or a client, the good way to go about it is to let the other party to speak as much as they want and also at their topic of the choice.
This creates an entrance to them and also to make them as comfortable because they are talking about things that they are familiar with. Get along with the conversation with prompts and good questions.
So probably after that person decides to slow down and find out what you want to say, then you can prolly interest him/her with some valuable information.

An added bonus is that you already know what kind of person he/she is through the topics that they talked earlier on.

cool. wat a way to pique ppl's curiousity

T for Terrapin, Tortoise and Turtle

A terrapin is usually found in most home tanks - they live mainly on land but need water to wet themselves with. They are both carnivorous, they have a liking to eat small fishes, and vegetarian – eating water weeds and algae.

A tortoise is a land creature. They are strictly vegetarian and hibernates through winter! The star tortoise is a tropical tortoise and does not hibernate. They make good garden pets as they eat up the weeds, but are not good in flats. A good choice for those living in houses.

A turtle is a sea dwelling creature – again eating fish and vegetables. They cannot live on land, only coming to shore to lay eggs before returning to sea. They are not good to keep as a pet at all.

How to wash your face

1. Tie your hair from your face to stop it from getting annoying. If you have bangs wear a headband or use a hair clip. If you wear glasses or contacts, take them out or off.

2. First wash your hands with a good face soap to clean them.

3. Wet your face with warm water to open your pores.

4. Take the cleanser or face wash and get a small amount on your hands, about the size of a coin. Rub some on your wet hands. Use cleanser that is gentle enough for your skin.

5. Work up a good lather by rubbing both hands together and applying it on your face.

6. Using your fingers, rub the cleanser all over your face removing dirt on the surface of your skin.

7. Rinse your face with cool, clean water, to close your pores, keeping the soap out of your eyes.

8. Pat your face dry with a clean and soft face towel or toilet paper. Make sure you pat it dry to reduce wrinkles as you mature.

9. It's a good idea to moisturize your face after washing it.

Tips

* Use a soap that suits your skin type: oily, normal or dry.
* If soap gets into your eyes, immediately rinse your eyes with water.
* Twice a day should do it. Washing too much will irritate your skin more.
* If your skin is too dry after washing, use water only and pat dry, or apply a moisturizing lotion afterward. Make sure the moisturizer is not oily or it may cause pimples.
* Wash your face twice if you have been wearing makeup. The first wash removes the makeup and the second cleanses the skin.
* Talk to your doctor about possible dermatological issues if you have chronic skin problems. They may very well stem from things you put on your skin: like soap!
* For some people, washing their face with soap can dry their skin out. If you are one of those people, try using a gentle face-wash such as Pro-Active(a face-wash that also helps with acne)or Cetaphil.

I've made a new label/tag called the momo-pedia.
I think it is quite useful as we can learn about things together as well as store them somewhere for easier reference.

Thanks alot to soksok too for her help in the brainstorming yesterday.

I hate the feeling of sleep deprivation and I know it is something I can never get used to. If I'm going to study next time, I will have to make sure I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep a day to prevent myself from falling asleep during lectures. After entering National Service, I found my attention span on the powerpoint is so short. After some time, my mind will just go to sleep mode.

I know a person who can survive on so little hours of sleep and still survived. I think she will know herself when she sees this.

Today's dinner was a blast. I definitely love it.
The Jurong West market is re-opened and I went there today with mummiee and daddee to chiong some food.

Total we had
- 3 bowls of porridge with half a chicken
- yu sheng
- fried ngor hiang and lots of others
- papaya with white fungus soup

Water retention

There are essentially two main things that help stop water retention. Ironically, the first of these is drinking more water. Water retention is common when we are dehydrated or low on water. The body tends toward conserving water, and will retain a bit in order to keep us hydrated. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day helps shed extra water, reducing water retention.

The other thing that can help stop water retention is minimizing extra sodium in the diet, which can be difficult. We usually can point to a few foods high in sodium, but just about any packaged food contains some level of sodium. Most natural food sources also have some sodium too, though the amount is negligible. If you’re having problems with water retention, lowering overall sodium intake is one of the best methods for reducing it. Look for low sodium varieties of foods, especially canned foods and prepared meals.

Important factors that will help you lose water weight are respiration and transpiration, which can both be increased by regular exercise. Every time you exhale, your body loses a minute amount of water. Transpiration occurs when sodium and water are sweated out of the body, usually due to activity. By maintaining a healthy exercise regimen, you can increase both respiration and transpiration to help stop water retention. This doesn’t necessarily mean killing yourself at the gym. A thirty minute brisk walk four to five days a week will most likely provided the necessary levels of movement to lose water weight.

Keratosis pilaris

Worldwide, KP affects an estimated 40% of the adult population and approximately 50%-80% of all adolescents. It is more common in women than in men.

Keratosis pilaris (KP, also follicular keratosis) is a very common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin, hence referred to as chicken skin.

It most often appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms (though the lower arms can also be affected), and can also occur on the thighs and tops of legs, flanks, buttocks, or any body part except glabrous skin (like the palms or soles of feet). Less commonly, lesions appear on the face, which may be mistaken for acne.

I used to have this.

I think I will be going mad soon. It is this kind of fanatism that I see from some ppl that quite gross me out. I'm not saying it is bad but being too enthusiastic about the things they do, kinda make me feel impressed yet unable to comprehend their actions.

This year's celebrations will be quite simple for our family in terms of Chinese New Year goodies and foodies.
Since we are always going around to do visiting, I guess it is good if we don't buy much foodies as we always didn't manage to finish them.

Yes, this reminds me of the bak gua I found in the refridgerator at July last year. It was sorta hidden somewhere and forgotten, so I made the effort finally to oven-heat it and finish it. I survived.

Some good stuff worth getting are -
Melon seeds (The black ones are sexy!)
Pistachio (My fren find girls with pistachio eyes chio)
Love letters (the chocolate ones. Julies' for example.)
Macadamia nuts (plain is good for health)

Well.. some might ask, what about bak gua?!
If I'm gonna devour them at some relatives' house, I will be doing injustice to my weight if I further have them at home. Ah not to forget the mini-fried-prawn-spring-roll-thingie.

So, some asks where to get nice nice bak gua? Anyone's home but not your own home obviously!!!
ok, seriously speaking I do not find the chinatown ones nice. Due to rushing, some pieces tend to be overburnt. Do not be surprised if you spot the worker bbq-ing perspiring and you can see drips of perspiration drips onto the delicious red/black bak gua and then evaporates away. I won't say what is left behind from the evaporation =)

It'd be good to get them from people you know, who can get it for you in discounts and also their packaging tends to be nicer since its pre-ordered.

Superb.

I can't wait to get home you know!!

I can't wait to see the decorations my mummiee did for the house!! We spent like 45minutes choosing them..

Great.
The season of giving and sharing is nearing to an end.
It is time for careful eating and saving money too. I shall promise to save up half of the money i got from Chinese New Year and giving the rest to my parents to cover for the costs on giving out red packets. I guess it is still a season of give and take lol.

It also means the end of the long chain of holidays.
The next scheduled one will be on Chinese New Year and after that will be till the end of National Service.
Yeah right, the end sounds near but yet not near. As many frens have already start saying its near and counting down, I will not admit it as near until its finally the last month.

Count count count and I'm still left with 8 months. Cool? Not really. One-third left is alot to me.

I guess in the end, it boils down to depending on wat kind of environment or people u work with. There are people I noe that prefers serving NS than working. Thinking back on my attachment days at Electronic Arts, I think definitely the answer is clear I will certainly love EA more. It is also mostly on the people whom I've known and worked with.

I think life after National Service will not be simple.

If I'm going to study, I will have to work on holidays to get as much money to cover up for my daily expenses. I feel abit lousy having still to collect pocket money from parents at this period.

It truly saddens me whenever I ask some fellow NSFs what their plans are and they can give me elaborate plans of 10years ahead. I wish I will not end up like some who can still say, "Hmm... I don't know leh. Haven't really think yet. Aiya still long lurh." You can wait but theres no time.

If I take four years to finish my studies, I will be close to twenty-seven when I finish. How in the world will I get enough money to marry my wife by thirty? Don't mention buying a house yet. And say, if I miraculously manage to, my kid will be twenty by the time I'm fifty and that is the eldest. What about my second kid? I don't know will I reach retirement before they start supporting themselves.

Sigh. My plan from secondary school have already failed.
I use to have this plan at sec one that
- If I have a kid at 16, I will be a grandfather by 32 if my kid marries at 16.
- Then again, I will be a great-grandfather by 48.
- Then again, I will be a great-great-grandfather by 64
Then I will have 6 generations by the time I reach 80.

Cool. I use to think this plan is good. Until I have to admit that I'm not marrying a pig. Nowadays ladies refuse to get married until they have thoroughly enjoyed their youth

Today is 010109.
The first of the year.
A year which people expects hardships coming along with the recession.
A year in when I ORD.
A year of important decisions which I will make that will determine my future.

I do not know why I'm so grouchy today.
Is it because I know I'm wasting a day today? This is the only possible reason I can come up with.
I find I've been going out at least everyday during this season. Unlike the past where going out is twice a week thing. Going out more certainly burns alot of my savings away.

Wonderful. Now my rooms smells of Sandalwood. A Home Fragrance Oil I got from the Body Shop. My room smells like those furniture shops now.

Today, Daddee was talking to me about how school is starting for the schooling people. And so he said it was good as they are more preoccupied in school than going out around wasting life.

So, a reminiscence appears in my head.
The days when I was still schooling in secondary school, holidays are like normal days actually. It is only the first week of holiday that is so sweet, the other 2 taste bittersweet while the last tastes the worse.
To me, every sunday afternoon till evening, tat feeling of bittersweet always come rushing.

But school holidays are the best things ever.

I've never learn to appreciate it until it is over.
What more can you ask for?
- All ure frens are free most of the days. Scheduling an outing is so much easier.
- It is a month thing. Unlike working life where u only have 14 days to play around.
- It comes full force twice a year.
- U can do many things u wan and not fear being called back just because some bugger took last minute MC.
- You can go for freaky long holidays and come back just the night before school reopens.

When a man falls off the ship, u will shout "Man overboard!"
Wat will u shout of a woman who went overboard?
